Jal means water, and Jeera means cumin. In Ayurveda, cumin is considered digestive and helps with bloating, gas, heaviness, etc. In summer, due to the Pitta season, there is an excess of heat and inflammation in our system.
Cumin helps cool down the system and detoxifies the liver. Mint is refreshing, and lemon has alkaline properties. Jal Jeera water helps improve digestion, increase appetite, maintain hydration during the summer heat, and neutralize stomach acids.
Lemon juice, spices, and a few mint leaves make it somewhat of a spicy Indian lemonade. Very refreshing during the Pitta season. This traditional drink from northern India is enjoyed during the summer as an aperitif, for hydration, or during festive occasions when meals are heavy.
