Ashwagandha, also known as 'Indian ginseng,' has a wide range of significant benefits in Ayurveda.
Ashwagandha nourishes the nervous system, promoting physical and mental endurance as well as concentration. It supports the proper functioning of the adrenal glands and the reproductive system, enhancing sexual energy, mental clarity, and memory.
Taken daily as a beverage, Ashwagandha helps minimize the negative effects of stress, supports the immune system, and maintains sexual balance and reproductive health.
Here's a recipe for an Ashwagandha beverage. It may take a few days to get used to the bitter and astringent taste, but the health benefits are immense.
Ayurvedic Ashwagandha Beverage Recipe
Ingredients
1 cup purified water, 1 cup milk (whole, almond, or goat milk but not soy), 1 tsp organic Sewanti Ashwagandha, 1/4 tsp ground cardamom, and 1/2 tsp ground ginger.
Preparation
Bring the water to a boil, then add Ashwagandha, cardamom, and ginger. Let it steep for 5 minutes. Add the milk and let it steep again until the mixture reaches a gentle boil. Sweeten (with raw sugar, honey) to taste to balance the bitter taste.
Suggested Usage
Add 1 to 2 tsp of Ashwagandha to warm milk (preferably organic or whole milk), sweeten (with raw sugar, honey), and add a dash of ghee (or coconut oil) before bedtime. Beneficial for children and individuals in a weakened state. It can also be added to warm water.
